Hey there! Thanks so much for featuring Rot in your 3 Horror Games video, it really means a lot to me and I'm glad you enjoyed :) Thanks also for introducing me to Love, Sam!
Hey there! Thanks so much for taking the time to record a let's play :) it really means a lot to me and I'm so glad you enjoyed! I left a comment and subbed
This game I feel is best played alone in the dark, it just makes it a better experience.
Anyways, I really loved this game. It's shorter, but it honestly really sucked me in. The third section in the dark hallways made me genuinely scared to round every corner, and when I saw *ahem* THAT on the ground, a huge chill went up my spine and I found the repeating text on the walls near the end of that hallway to be pretty creepy. I love the storytelling aspect, I love how it actually made me scared, it's a great game.
My only complaints are the way to inspect notes and open doors, because they don't always register, and also, sometimes when you try to read a note or open a door, you accidentally go out of a door behind you. You also don't always know where to go, so the first time of me playing this, I found that I had missed two notes, so that's a little problematic.
Those are my only two complaints, otherwise, I love the game! Keep up the great work!
Hey there Beebeboy! Thanks so much for taking the time to play and I'm really glad that you enjoyed Rot, that makes me so happy :)
Yes! I am not very proud of the way things work mechanically; this is my first game in Unity and if I were to completely remake Rot from the ground up I'd do lots of things differently. Thank you for pointing it out though, because it does hamstring the experience and I want to make games that people can really enjoy.
Thank you again, though, for your kind words! I hope you have a great day :)
Hey there! I just wanna say thanks for taking the time to comment all that time ago when Rot came out. It really meant a lot and comments like yours encouraged me to keep on making games. If you're interested, I just published a sequel to Rot on my itch! I hope it's okay, but I actually used some of your comment in the game haha...
I gotta say, I loved the whole low-res aesthetic of the game as well as the story behind these two characters, especially when it came to the obsession, for sure!
Really was creepy to play as the game went on and once everything subsided, the story completely made sense.
Really enjoyed the game thoroughly. Thanks for making such a neat game! :D
Thank you so much! It's really cool that you took the time to record a let's play but I also want to say thank you for the kind words. I'm very flattered and I'm glad you enjoyed the story :)
I wanted to enjoy the game, but I was getting frustrated with the controls, and the lag. I see what you guys were trying to portray to us as the player, but for me it just didn't shine through. If some of the minor things wrong with this version of the game are fixed, I would 100% be down to play again and leave another review. I am in no way saying the game is bad, because it's not. It just didn't spark my soul like I was hoping it would. Keep the dream alive!
Played this for a Random indie horror game video and was pretty intrigued by the story, however that's all it really had going for it tbh. The gameplay was a little wanky to say the least. It was not a bad game by any means, I just feel there is room for improvement. I give an honest and more in-depth review in my video if you're interested.
Hey there friend! I appreciate your honest feedback about the game, it is always welcome, and I trust that one day it will lead to improvements for my future titles. I am sorry that you did not have a better time with it but having seen your video it is understandable why! I left a comment responding to your review and subbed :)
I just left a reply to it lol. The game wasn't wasn't bad, just needs a bit of work is all. Thanks for replying! I appreciate it! And thanks for the sub!
Recommended with 5 stars. I enjoyed this little game. 👌😁
Normally I would like to write a few more lines, but when it comes to feelings or deeper meaning, my English sucks. I'm sorry 😬. Dear dev: May I ask if that fictional relationship between Emma and Justin was already broken? Did Justin not accept the separation and placed those letters? Just wanna know, if i got this right. 🤔 You don't have to answer if it's a secret..... wait.👆.. or... if i'm completely wrong because i'm stupid. 😆
Hi there Ravee! Thanks so much for commenting, it really means a lot!
To me, the relationship is broken before the events of the game, and yes! Justin does place letters around the apartment to make it seem as though love is still there. It's not really a secret haha, in fact if you want to know more then there's a devlog on the game page called 'So... What Happened With Emma and Justin?'.
Thank you so much for rating my game! That really helps me out a lot and I'm so glad you enjoyed it 😊
P.S. don't worry about your English, you were perfectly clear!
Nice to know I got this story right 😊. (I've currently read the devlog). You have placed a well done solid game here and I really appreciate the quality of the work. 👍
Hey Ravee! Wanted to say thanks for saying such kind things about Rot when it came out. I really appreciated it and it's how I came across your games like meloveyou!
If you're interested, I've just published a sequel on my page :) Hope you're well! And happy deving
Hahaha, maybe a new feature will be that you constantly carry around a pint of wifebeater ;) thanks for taking the time to do a let's play my friend! It really means a lot to me :) You know you're the only one to pick up on the Burberry hat so far!
Hey mate! Thanks so much for taking the time to record and edit a whole let's play of Rot, I'm really happy that you decided to shout the game out on your channel :) Left a comment and subbed!
Oh dear! I'm very sorry about that :( there are a few issues with the controls as it stands (this is my first game in Unity, still getting the hang of it!) but hopefully everything should work if you stand right up against the doors and don't look away or move when interacting with the dialogues!
I know that's very amateurish of me and I hope to update it one day but I'm honestly just very busy at the moment with my job and my university so I've only really had time to respond to comments et al!
Really interesting way to combine the different themes through the letters and different environment changes. Loved it even though still a bit confused on the story I think!
Hey Pecan! Thanks so much for recording a let's play of Rot, it really means a lot to me and I'm so glad you enjoyed it! If you're a bit confused on the story then I think there are a few notes you missed but the whole thing is very abstract and metaphorical so I guess it's not supposed to 100% make sense haha. I was sure to sub to your channel so that I might see some more indie titles on there in the future :)
Gave it a go, perhaps before an update hit? Enter key was horrible! Guessing it's been changed, as the frustration in my video shows how it was. Otherwise, could maybe use a touch more horror or good ambiance? Could be just me
Hey man! Thanks so much for playing Rot on your YouTube channel, I really appreciate it :) There were a few cringes for me haha, that door glitch is very hard to look at! Basically, the interaction icon works independently from the mechanism that transports the player through doors so they often don't match up :( this is definitely a bug and in the future I'll be sure to use a different method! For most other let's plays though it wasn't a problem so I think you were especially unlucky with it :(
I'm thankful that you were honest about the frustration and I totally take your tips on board! I made this game last year for a university assignment and the time-pressured nature of things meant that a lot of ideas weren't fully realised and that many concepts were limited by the quality of teaching for the course (which was TERRIBLE, everything I have learned I learned from the internet) so next time I make a project it should be more fully fleshed out. This includes things like ambience and general embellishments.
On interpretation: I understand your confusion about the story! The game is entirely metaphorical and the apartment stands for the relationship between the two characters.
Thanks so much again for playing, I really appreciate it :)
Not a prob, good you can take criticism like a champ, though I always say any form of criticism with absolute and genuine desire that who its directed to, improves, with no malice or anger towards you/them at the time. xD
I got the doors to work, thank you for the advice. I hope I figured out what was happening in the game. I miss pixelated low poly games. So much nostalgia.
Hey ZombiKittie! I really appreciate you taking the time to play Rot on your channel, it really means a lot and I'm glad that the art style took you back to the good old days :)
great message! The pixel art was so nice and the eerie feeling throughout the game was amazing.
I don't know if you've heard of Game Development World Championship before (gdwc2019) but it's a competition for indie game developers where they can submit their games and it's free! It's great if you want some more visibility for the game and it only takes a couple of minutes to join :)
Hey there! Thanks for commenting :) No, I haven't heard of this Championship before but it can't hurt to apply! How would I go about doing that, can I ask?
Yes of course! Just go to our website https://thegdwc.com and enroll, first you will register yourself and then you can submit your game :D There's also a FAQ on the website if you have any more questions, otherwise you can also ask me :)
Hey Bonez! Thanks so much for taking the time to record this let's play! It was a good watch and I'm really glad that you thought the game was interesting! I was sure to comment and to sub so that I might see some more indie horror on your channel :)
Hey there mate! Just finished watching and thanks so much for featuring my game on your channel :) It really means a lot! Your musical numbers added a lot to the experience haha. Left a comment and subbed!
Love the thumbnail my friend hahaha, thanks for taking the time to record a session with Rot! It really means a lot to me :) I left a comment on your channel and subbed!
Hey Zombikittie! Thanks for commenting :) I'm really sorry but this may be a bug with the game! Unfortunately when the interact icon shows, a player might not yet be able to actually open the door. This is because doors detect the player with colliders independent of the layermask for the interaction icon.
It should be okay as long as you are right up against the door! I know this is annoying and I will probably work on a bug fix for this soon, I've just been super busy recently so haven't had much time to work on the game! Hope this helps :)
Hey man! Thanks for taking the time to record a let's play :) I'm glad you took the time to read a lot of the notes and it makes me so happy you enjoyed it! I subbed and left a comment and I look forward to seeing the indie games you shout out on your channel in the future
Hey there man! Thanks for showing my game in your video, I really appreciate you taking the time to record a session with it :) Note taken about the arrow key controls haha! A few people have said this so far so I've added a mouse support version. I'm sorry you didn't have a better time with it but I welcome all criticism and feedback! It's my first game in Unity really so next time around I'll be sure to tighten up on optimisation and controls
What's up Michael! Glad to see you were a good sport about the criticism I had with your game. It's very seldom when I find devs that are fine with it. Keep up the hard work, and hopefully I'll come across your future games.
A nice little horror experience, I'd like it if the writing on the walls was a bit easier to read, but there was plenty of weird, plenty of strange, I enjoyed it. Good work, this is the second game in the video.
Thanks so much man! I'm so happy you enjoyed it enough to shout it out on your channel and I was sure to sub so that I can find some more good indie horror!
Thanks so much! Honestly, don't even worry about donating, I'm just happy that you enjoyed it and it's comments like that which make me want to put more stuff out there!
Hey there mate! I wanna say thank you for your kind words when I released Rot, they really meant a lot. If you're interested, I just published a sequel free to play on my page!
When you became really small before you went into the weird room there was a message on the phone that you could listen to also the big note on the floor could have been read I suggest gong back through because it definitely added to the short little story
Thanks for shouting out my game in your let's play :) I'm really glad you enjoyed it! I also wanna say thanks for showing me Perennial! I really enjoyed the vertex shaded art style and I'll be sure to check it out
Wow man! It really means a lot to me that you took the time to make a let's play of Rot! It was very funny to see you react to the 'fear' scene haha, made me jump a bit even though I knew it was there :D I left a comment on your video but thanks again my friend and I look forward to seeing more of your content!
Hey friend! You were one of the first people to do a let's play of Rot and really be kind about the game :) Thank you! If you're interested, I just published a sequel on my page!
This is some really heavy stuff man, but very heartfelt and visceral. Artfully done, and kept me on the edge of my seat. The writing was very good too. I think you captured that kind of despair and confusion really really accurately, and I think it was very brave of you to present it to the world! You should be very proud of this! I only wish there was more to play!!
Hey Scoyoh! Thank you so much for your kind words! That's very high praise and I'm so happy it had you on the edge of your seat! I'm really glad you enjoyed the writing :) I take your point about wishing there was more to play- it was originally created as a university assignment so there was a bit of time pressure! Who knows, I may add extra content to it in the future.
Thank you also for saying it was brave of me, another person might reasonably say it's better to keep things to myself haha. But, I was very interested in the question of 'can emotional pain be horror like physical pain?'. What is a more powerful anguish? And since people seem to be interested by the idea too when I show them my games I think this was worth creating!
Thanks so much again for taking the time to play and I hope you have a great day :)
Hey friend! It's been a while, but I wanted to say thank you for saying such kind things when Rot released. It really meant a lot to me! If you're interested, I've just released a sequel on my itch page. Hope you're well, otherwise, and happy gaming!
¡Hola!
Hi there :) thanks for taking the time to comment! Can I ask what you mean by locking the mouse? Do you mean locking the mouse to constrain to one monitor? Thanks!
I really liked how the story of this game progressed through writing, I’m convinced Justin gets Tinder and goes on a mad one before finally coming to his senses 😂
Hey man! I just wanna say, you were my first let's play! I'll always be really thankful for the support you gave the game after it came out. If you're interested, I just released a sequel to the game!
Hey man! 100% will play the sequal, I have a question actually, I have this new idea for a series where I want to interview developers over discord about their games , any chance you would be up for this?? 😀
My First Let's Play!!! Thank you so much! :D Yes! Since you're the second person to ask for mouse support I've just rigged up a mouse support build that I'll upload now. Really appreciate you taking the time to record a session!
Hi Justin! First of all I wanna say that I'm so so happy this game got to you. Honestly, as someone who wants to go in to game dev, that's a very special feeling and you're the first person on this website to say something so kind!
Secondly, I do want to say that while Rot is primarily a horror experience, it is just as much an art piece about love gone bad. When I made this I was going through a period of sincere hopelessness after an unexpected breakup with my first love.
The development of this game was a way for me to comprehend how I was feeling, and look at those feelings outside of my self so that I might understand them better.
When the game was finished, I felt so much better, much better than I thought I would. I realised how crazy I was! And also the things I did wrong.
Hey friend, it's been a while! I just wanted to say that I really appreciated what you said about Rot when it was released. It was really kind and it honestly really made the project feel special at a time when I think I needed it to.
If you're bored during this crisis stuck at home then I thought I'd just say that I released a sequel if you're interested.
OMG, HI!! That's so funny, because I woke up this morning and for some reason, I felt I had the urge to check up on you and how you were doing during this pandemic. I'll download your game right away and play it as soon as I get the chance! I'm really excited! Is there any platform like Twitter or Instagram that I could reach out to you by?
Yes, you too! Also, I made my username on here "Anonymous Player" because I wasn't comfortable sharing that about myself to the public unless it was you, the game developer that helped me see clearly through that hard time of mine... I also thought you might not take my comment seriously because of my young age - I'm 17. Throughout the 10 months after playing Rot, I was able to share my story with others and watch myself slowly regain my feet. I've been so so much happier lately and all I needed was the push that your game gave me. I've read your articles about Rot and absolutely loved them! I thought it was so funny that many thought that Justin had killed Emma (I think that's what her name was) at the end. I also found your mention of me understanding the story was so heartwarming and it gave me even more inspiration to change. Well, what I'm trying to say is, I'm no longer afraid or ashamed of my past, and no longer want to be known to you as "Anonymous Player," so please call me Justin. You've done so much for me through your college project, and I want to thank you again.
It's Iate, so I'm afraid I cannot reread this for spelling or grammar errors since I typed a lot, but I wish you well and I'm still super excited to play your game!
Also, I was born with two names: Justin David, and on social media, my username is "Cultivated David," just so you don't get confused, haha
Please do not feel any need to thank me, Justin! The pleasure is all mine, you know I really just made Rot as a university assignment in my bedroom over the course of a month or so... so it means the world to me that it could really mean so much to someone like you. I'm very glad that I could help give you some perspective on a bad situation in your life... I know that other games have done that for me in the past!
The fact that you felt a certain connection with it meant that the game had achieved all it set out to do and I wouldn't dare understate the significance of that. To me, the processes of making and consuming art are all about exchange of experience and perspective... the best artists to me permanently inform the way I view difficult concepts such as love and loss, suffering etc... we are all in a perpetual state of coming to terms with these overwhelming and often ineffable concepts, and in art we help each other see a little clearer. To know that I may have offered this to you even in the slightest was very touching.
It is great to see you on a better path! I hope you continue this way.
Hi there! Thanks for commenting :) That's a good question, I wanted to make the camera more restricting and retro feeling. In future updates I may make it optional! In fact, I could make a mouse version today if you'd like?

This game messed with my head.
Haha, that's the idea! Thanks so much for choosing to do a let's play of Rot, it really means a lot! Subbed and commented :)
Yeah, they're probably not getting back together.
Hahaha you got that right. Thanks so much for taking the time to record a let's play! I really appreciate it :) commented and subbed!
Saw the Burberry hat and lost it...
Hahaha, maybe a new feature will be that you constantly carry around a pint of wifebeater ;) thanks for taking the time to do a let's play my friend! It really means a lot to me :) You know you're the only one to pick up on the Burberry hat so far!
Haha I have a keen eye for spotting youth subcultures aparently ;D
an interesting wee game indeed, I seem to have encountered a bug where I couldn't use my mouse though, but still managed to make my way through

Decent enough story but the design is where this game shines. The warping of the apartment is cool. Thanks for releasing this!
Thanks for the kind words my friend! And thank you for taking the time to record a let's play, I really appreciate it :) new sub!
Lovely message!

thank you. I'll try again and let you know if anything changes.
Hey man! Thanks for taking the time to record a let's play :) I'm glad you took the time to read a lot of the notes and it makes me so happy you enjoyed it! I subbed and left a comment and I look forward to seeing the indie games you shout out on your channel in the future
Sorry i do not use a mic, but it was a good game. The heart kind of spooked me good. I made this my second video!
Don't be sorry at all! I'm so glad you liked it and thanks for shouting out the game on your channel :)
(100% COMPLETE.) HOW TO GO CRAZY 101.
Bro this honestly made me laugh so hard hahaha. Great video and thanks for shouting me out! I left a comment and subbed :)
Mate, I dont have any money to donate but if I had any I would this Game was awesome. :)
keep creating
Thanks so much! Honestly, don't even worry about donating, I'm just happy that you enjoyed it and it's comments like that which make me want to put more stuff out there!
Hey there mate! I wanna say thank you for your kind words when I released Rot, they really meant a lot. If you're interested, I just published a sequel free to play on my page!
Definitely psychological horror! Got very weird very quickly.
I really enjoyed the vertex shaded art style and I'll be sure to check it out
Great game!!
Thanks so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it :)
Hey there friend! If you're interested, there's a sequel just published on my page :)
Please Stay with me...
Peace x
Great, I will check it out! So glad you're keeping this up. You have a very strong and effective artistic voice, I'm sure it's going to be amazing!
cuando tendra traduccion al español?
¡Hola!
How do I lock the mouse?
Hi there :) thanks for taking the time to comment! Can I ask what you mean by locking the mouse? Do you mean locking the mouse to constrain to one monitor? Thanks!
i dont mean like "How do I lock the mouse?" i mean like how do i look around the map
Nevermind. you just have to press the arrows keys. sorry about that.
No worries at all :) there is also a mouse supported version of the game! Hope you enjoy
I really liked how the story of this game progressed through writing, I’m convinced Justin gets Tinder and goes on a mad one before finally coming to his senses 😂
Hahaha, that's the sequel ;) thanks for commenting! I'm glad you enjoyed and I'll watch the video when I'm done with work!
Of course! That sounds great, any time! I think I follow you on twitter, so set me a DM :)
messaged you on twitter mate :)
May be add mouse support. By the way nice game!
My First Let's Play!!! Thank you so much! :D Yes! Since you're the second person to ask for mouse support I've just rigged up a mouse support build that I'll upload now. Really appreciate you taking the time to record a session!
:)
Yours,
Michael
Haha what a coincidence! Yep, you can follow me on twitter at @smashing_cravat and on Instagram by @bonard.io :) Hope you're well!
Yours,
Michael
Awesome story!!!
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed :)
Hey friend! It's been a while, but I just released a sequel to Rot if you're interested :) it's on my page!
Oh thank you!
why would you make the arrow keys to look around? why not just mouse?
Hi there! Thanks for commenting :) That's a good question, I wanted to make the camera more restricting and retro feeling. In future updates I may make it optional! In fact, I could make a mouse version today if you'd like?
Just to update! Since you and someone else asked for mouse support, a mouse supported game file is now downloadable :)
cool!
