a bunch of people have called me rot for quite a while now, so when i saw the name Rot next to obsession, rejection, and self hatred, i felt personally attacked, great game, i really enjoyed it.
When I read that this game was directly inspired by Kitty Horrorshow's Anatomy, I knew I was gonna have to check it out eventually. And I am not disappointed. I really liked the aspect of the environment changing around the player to symbolize both the passing of time as well as documenting where the in-game relationship was at as it grew ever distance. Nice work!
Unfortunately, my computer considered this game to be a virus, so I didn't play it myself. I watched a playthrough and it seemed cool, but I', not willing to risk running a file flagged as a virus. The sequel is great, though. I didn't have the same virus detection issues with that one.
I know this is old, but a lot of games get flagged as viruses. I believe games on itch are approved before they are posted so you should be ok to play any game on the platform! Anti-viruses trip up a lot. Mine once warned me before downloading steam lol
Very much enjoyed the game as you walk through the past home of two individuals that have an ever distancing relationship and see it crumble as it shatters their hearts. Thank you for making this! 1st game.
This is the third game in the video, the experiences and environment tied really well with each other, and the situation reminded me of my own experiences with this. it also really showed the separation between Emma and Justin. This was a great game, I loved it!
A sad and scary game. The environment, sometimes bright, other times dark or strange, gave off a spooky essence, while the story brought painful memories of my own experiences with obsession and love. Not just a good game, but a magnificent piece of art
Joking aside, this game sure tell a lot. I play both prequel and sequel. At first I don't understand what actually happened. But I slowly realize what is this game all about... A man who heartbroken by his own ego. (Or I wrong here.)
hey so I'm seeing on others game plays that it's supposed to look "normal" at the start and not like this, is there a reason behind why this is what I get when I first play?
I recently decided to jump back to this game after playing "We don't talk about it " to hopefully get a better understanding of the game. However, my stupid brain probably doesn't work and I got everything completely wrong..
wanted to play so that i could get the full story for we dont talk about it, and i wanted to extend my thanks! had a great time, and wanted to share the recording with you. cheers!
Just uploaded my gameplay of this! It was honestly an interesting experience lol Really enjoyed editing as well as playing and I hope some of you enjoy watching it! I probably missed some things or something went completely over my head but it was still a cool game!
Hey man, really enjoyed your game. It did touch me since you could say I've been through something kinda similar back when I was about the age of your characters. I made a playthrough video. I hope you keep creating interesting experiences like this!
Wow! That was some very interesting story filled with spooky and surreal twist near the end! Thank you very much for that game! I'm definitely going to play the sequel next friday :) Here's my little playthrough (Polish language) Cheers!
Awesome game as usual, you definetly got better in the second game you made, Don't Look at Me. My interpertation I made was that this was a story of affair, heartbreak, obssesion, and letting go. I feel this review would be too long, so just watch the video I made here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCASe6trRcJ-kpxs3d18-_aw?view_as=subscriber
I apologize if you find my voice annoying, my voice change hasn't happened just yet (even though im 13), so please bear with it. The video of me playing through it is also on their so you can find it there too. Like before, great game Michael!
Played through this prior to the sequel (just to get the whole story) and the dialogue written throughout, a back and forth between lovers felt very powerful and I saw a lot of a younger version of myself, admittedly not a proud portion, in the player character. Really happy I took the time to see this whole story through.
i can't run it, it seems to be missing the following files: Rot Remastered Mouse Support.x86.64, UnityPlayer.so, UnityPlayer_s.debug and LinuxPlayer_s.debug - please add them in a next version...
I had no idea what I was walking into when I started up this game, and I still have no idea quite what I walked into now I'm done!
To try and put it simply, it's a real rollercoaster of emotions, very talkative inanimate objects and creepy, boarded-up nightmares.
To put it a bit less simply it's a horror-thriller game wherein you walk around an apartment (potentially one that our character is about to move into), experiencing remnants of the past, glimpses of a broken mind and lots of curious letters between two loves no longer connected.
There are still lots of things I'm not 100% sure about, but what I do know is that this game was one heck of a ride, and I lived every moment of it (enough so that I felt inclined to experience it twice to make sure I caught everything)! Definitely worth a look, the style is great and the story lurking beneath the weirdness is really mind-bending.
Keep up the awesome work Michael (great name too, Michaels unite!) =)
Hey MikeyBlighe! Just finished watching your let's play and I'm so glad you even took the time to go through the game twice! It really means a lot to me that you enjoyed it :) yes! Michaels union haha. I made sure to comment on the video and to sub!
Hey MikeyBlighe! Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to comment such nice things about the game when I released it. You were really encouraging and I remember really appreciating it and enjoying your lets play. If you're interested, I've just published a sequel on my itch!
Hey Levont! Thanks so much for doing a let's play of Rot on your channel, it really means a lot :) I'm really glad you enjoyed and I take your note about the sudden change which you mention in the video! The game was originally made as a university assignment and part of the brief was that it had to only be a few minutes long, I think I would have done it very differently were that not the case. I will definitely consider this for future projects and thank you for the feedback! I left on a comment on the video :)

A thoroughly bizarre experience but thank you :)

Really like the story telling in the game. I just feel like I'm missing a piece of the story, mainly when the original split starts.
Anywho here's my channel for other games I have played. http://www.youtube.com/c/Levont
